It is no denying the fact that History is the mother of all social as well as the natural sciences. It is the pivot on which all human knowledge revolves. It not only familiarizes us with the past but also prepares to cope with the present challenges and chalk out plans for future. The new scheme of examinations in Pakistan and the rat race of securing highest marks has affected the students a lot and diminished their habit of extensive reading. Moreover, the onslaught of new disciplines and general trend towards professional education has limited the scope for this subject, yet the one who has nourished the habits of reading and discussion finds it highly useful not only as an academician but also as a professional in different walks of life like journalism, law and even in competitive examinations.
History has treaded through a long trail of its composition, exposition and presentation manners from the ‘Royal history’ to the ‘Subaltern Studies’. This long journey has polished, illuminated and expanded the horizons of history as a subject and opened up new venues of research in it. At present no corner of social sciences escapes from the keen eyes of the historians. Although the overlapping, interconnection and interdependence of multiple subjects of social sciences has beautifully interspersed history as subject with rainbow colors yet this aspect is scoffed at by some historians. However, positive use of relative sciences has contributed to the veracity and authenticity of this subject. There is little room for assumptions, rumors and baseless narrations. The ancient history is being re-read and researched in the light of newly available tools of research with positive effects.
We must read history for its invaluable treasure of knowledge and awareness which are essential elements of development in all walks of our national as well as personal life.
