An Overview of Programme

The Bachelor Degree in English Language & Literature, affiliated with University of the Punjab, offers a chance to study writing in English from its origins in Anglo-Saxon to the present as well as to study works written in English from other parts of the world, and some originally written in other languages, offering an opportunity to think about literature in English in multilingual and global contexts across time. Studying literature in this institute involves the development of sophisticated reading skills and of an ability to place literary texts in their wider intellectual and historical contexts. It also requires considering the critical processes by which students analyze and judge, to learn about literary form and technique, to evaluate various approaches to literary criticism and theory, and to study the development of the English language.

            BS English Literature program consists of literature and creative writing; and these tracks are intertwined and organically linked. The Institute has an excellent reputation for challenging, innovative, forward-thinking teaching and research in literature and creative writing. English Faculty is the finest English department in the town; therefore have the opportunity to learn from a wide range of specialist teachers. Faculty members are acclaimed scholars who are also enthusiastic and experienced teachers, and have the ability to convey ideas and explain techniques strongly and clearly. Similarly, students of creative writing are introduced about the current literary trends in creative writing.

            An open disciplinary space has been created through a variety of subject combinations. The combinations of disciplines offered in the beginning of program train students for lifelong effective communication in English. The discipline broadens the vision of students, giving them deep insight into literature; prepares students for English majors and for postgraduate research in language and literature within and outside Pakistan. Students who choose this degree have numerous opportunities to excel in life. They also have the option of joining various careers as digital copywriter, editorial assistant, English as a foreign language teacher, lexicographer, magazine journalist, newspaper journalist, publishing copy-editor, secondary school teacher, etc.
