An Overview of Programme

Since antiquities Mathematics has had a special place in the daily as well as academic lives of the mankind. This subject is rightly called the “Mother of all Sciences”, as without its involvement no science can come into being, or flourish. In any Science or Engineering subject encompassing calculations, the text is in fact a “mixture of English and Mathematics”. If we take out Mathematics from this text, English will be left and no one can ever understand that text without Mathematical concepts. Mathematics is considered as the basic tool to learn and understand the Science, Engineering, and other subjects involving computations. This subject is remarkably contributing in teaching and research of almost all academic subjects including Basic Sciences, Engineering, Management Sciences, Economics, Metrology, etc.

Bachelor of Science in Mathematics program, affiliated with University of the Punjab, is designed for those students who want to pursue their study in the field of Mathematics. Mathematics is a basic and powerful tool for solving problems and a highly creative field of study. The designed program is according to the scheme of studies approved by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan to assure the quality education and equalize it with national and international standards. The Department of Mathematics offers a variety of courses to have the benefit of a flexible curricular program. The degree assists students to enhance their quantitative skills which are highly valued as a mathematician. This degree prepares students for a career in the public and private sectors.

The graduates of this programme can pursue for further studies, or in work finance, consultancy, advertising, management, banking, marketing, accountancy, commerce, education, research and IT. BS Mathematics helps students to be highly numerate and grasp knowledge to think clearly and logically to analyze the situations and organize them accordingly. Additionally, students develop special skills which they can use in devising solutions to complex problems. Having equipped with such skills enable graduates to seek creative careers in applied science, physics, banking, etc. The department provides students all the possible facilities and guidance that’s beneficial for them during their stay at the Campus. The diversity of the courses offered in this programme would give the students an opportunity to specialize in one of the fields of Pure Mathematics and Applied Mathematics.
