Physics is one of the most fundamental sciences, building upon the tradition of thousands of years of human inquiry based on observation, mathematical reasoning, and sense of inventiveness. Through semiconductors, optics and electronics, it has transformed the way we communicate and share information and ideas in this interconnected planet and through a probing of the properties of matter and energy, it has advanced our mastery of our natural world and helped us to use these resources for satiating our never-ending needs in energy, health, education, food and agriculture, and astronomical exploration.

One of the oldest disciplines, Physics is the description of complex nature of natural phenomena. It is the general analysis of nature conducted in order to understand how the universe behaves. Because of certain interdisciplinary research areas, boundaries of Physics are not defined. It ranges from super cluster of galaxies to elementary particles quarks, neutrinos and electrons. Very short term phenomena beyond the limits of observation are dealt by Physics. It divulges in observable entities and phenomena of nature by its rules, laws as well as their effects present. It creates and measures conditions varies between hypo and hyper widely. Experimentation explores new ideas in Physics however phenomenologist models complex phenomenon of experiments to theory. The scientific method of physics relies on a priori reasoning as well as a posteriori reasoning and the use of Bayesian inference to measure the validity of a given theory.

The Physics Department has a long line of distinguished professors who have served at this department. Even today, the well-qualified and experienced faculty is involved in various research programs. Special focus is placed on preparing trained students equipped with basic concepts and hands-on laboratory training at the intermediate level. This enables them to contribute positively to their further studies and the human resource of the country. They are fully trained to join the job market as a valuable asset soon after completion of their study and to take up further study without any difficulty if they want to.
